My Experience of Christ

I am a 35 year old woman, married happily for 15 years. I am the mother of two girls, am a registered nurse, and a lover of God.

I had an experience of Christ as a small girl. My mother raised me in a denomination and I learned early in life that Jesus loved me and gave Himself up for me. As a teenager in a religious atmosphere I was disillusioned with the attitudes and double standards I witnessed. I was also seeking something deeper of Christ.

I began to watch evangelists on TV, visit other denominations, and go to Pentecostal tent meetings, all of which were fruitless, in my pursuit of a real life with Christ. So I proceeded with my life, cynical and unfulfilled, got married and had children. When I was 30 years old I met a woman at the gym. She was the mother of one of my daughters' classmates. She asked me if I was a Christian and I said, “Yes!” Then she said, “God is doing something on the earth outside of religion.”

Because I had experienced the hypocrisy and heartache of the religion of man I was captivated by her statement. I wanted to know where God was. I had looked for Him on every corner. I cried out to Him to reveal Himself to me and now this woman was about to tell me where He was and what He was doing.

She came to my house that week and shared some truths with me. She shared 1 Thessalonians 5:23 with me and told me the wonder of my creation in the image of God, made to be filled with Him as life. I had never been told that I had a spirit of my own!

She told me about the simple way of calling on the name of the Lord (Romans 10:10; 2 Timothy 2:22), and I did! She told me about our God, who went through a procedure to become a life-giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45) and who returned from His ascension to breathe Himself into man in John 20:22.

She gave me a Recovery Version of the New Testament with footnotes by Witness Lee. I began to really read the Scriptures and understand them as never before. The ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee ushered me into Christ and brought me into a real fellowship with the church.
